Country Houses:
Especially in the case of country houses, these types of building tend to have higher heat losses as they are regarded as old housing stock compared to modern, eco efficient buildings.
However, these properties do lend themselves to having additional rooms or out buildings that could be used for a dedicated boiler room.
In the case of a country house if the heat loss is <45kW then the dwelling can be eligible for the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). Larger Country houses will fall outside this bracket but will benefit with a cheaper fuel alternative than oil or LPG.
Hotels:
Hotels, being a commercial business, qualify for the Commercial Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). The owner is paid the tariff of 7.6p/kWh (October 2014) for every unit of heating that is delivered to the building(s). This would be inflation adjusted for the twenty year duration of the scheme. In the case of a hotel having multiple buildings then having one centralised boiler serving the entire site, rather than many boilers, would be a practical solution.
With greater heat losses and more available space the scope of installation for biomass is endless, the owners could choose between pellet, wood chip or log or between manual and fully automated systems.
